Soccer is the biggest sport in the world and like our other post about why soccer is as popular as it is. This is going to be about the best matches over the last 5 years. At the end of this read if I can get one person to become more interested in soccer I will happily take that as a win and hopefully, you can get a win too when you bet on football games, who knows maybe this read will give you some good knowledge.
Barcelona 2 – 8 Bayern Munich, August 2020
This was a weird time for soccer as it was fresh off the heels of the coronavirus so there were no fans and the games only lasted one leg instead of two. Basically, it was a knockout game and Bayern Munich were heavy favorites coming into this match with Barcelona not being as good as they once were and Bayern Munich being the best team in the world that season.
Bayern could have easily won 2-0 maybe 2-1 and had a nice cruise to victory, but obviously, the German team didn’t want to do this and instead, they opted to embarrass Barcelona on home soil. After the first 30 minutes Barcelona were already embarrassed and four nil down, but they didn’t stop there. Putting four more past them and embarrassing the team and Messi. This was a statement and a game that a lot of people will remember.
Manchester City 4 – 0 Real Madrid, May 2023
In the more normal times of soccer, Real Madrid and Man City are the two arguably best teams in the world and as of recently, they have had a mini rivalry having drawn each other in the Champions League multiple times.
Their games are always really entertaining but the one from 2023 stands out above the rest. Unlike some of their other games where it is a close affair with twists and turns, this was just a domination from start to finish. The opening 45 minutes of this game were some of the best I’ve seen a team play ever, in all my years of watching football I have very rarely seen a team perform this way and watching it was a privilege. If you have the time, I encourage you to go and watch the first half.
Liverpool 4 – 0 Barcelona, May 2019
Unfortunately for Barcelona fans, they are on this list again but for all the wrong reasons. In 2018, Liverpool lost the Champions League final to Real Madrid and a year later they were losing 3-0 after the first leg against the other half of the El Clasico. Liverpool returned to Anfield with a huge crowd behind them and fired in their bellies. When the team sheet came out, Liverpool fans collectively saw their dreams of the Champions League win fade away with Salah and Firmino both missing from the team.
An unlikely hero, Origi, stepped up in this game getting a brace, scoring the first to start the comeback and the fourth to win Liverpool the game. This goal and this game are iconic and Liverpool went on to win the Champions League and solidify their team as legendary.
Manchester City 3 – 2 Aston Villa
Now, having 2 Man City games may be slightly controversial but I watched this game live and I knew at that very moment I was watching history. When the 70th minute ticked by, City fans collectively assumed that they had given Liverpool the title on the final day.
Until, Gundogan stepped up and scored to make it 2-1, minutes later Zinchenko beat his man and Rodri fired a goal into the bottom corner. After this went in, the fans knew they were going to win and a decade after their iconic 3-2 against QPR, Man City did it again, scoring a third and completing the comeback before the clock struck 80. Iconic.
