In its final home midweek game of the 2021 campaign, the Kansas baseball team earned a 3-1 victory over Missouri State Wednesday night at Hoglund Ballpark.
The Jayhawks (25-21) got a quality start from Steve Washilewski, who pitched four innings and allowed one unearned run while striking out three batters. He gave up a total of four hits to the 17 batters he faced.
After Missouri State (15-16) scored a run in the second, KU responded with a run in the home half of the frame. Jack Wagner opened the inning with a double and was brought home by another double from Dylan Ditzenberger.
Skyler Messinger came through with a go-ahead double in the third. Wagner later added a run in the fifth via a sacrifice fly. Maui Ahuna, Messinger and Ditzenberger all collected two hits apiece. Messinger recorded two doubles and a RBI.
Tavian Josenberger put the ball in play during all five of his at-bats, but ultimately couldn’t get a hit and had his hitting streak end at 24 games.
Kansas will host Oklahoma State for a three-game series this weekend. The series opener is slate for 6 p.m. Friday.
