KU pole vaulter Zach Bradford earns Big 12 honor for second consecutive week

By J-W Staff Report     Apr 21, 2021

For the second consecutive week, KU sophomore Zach Brad-ford was named the Big 12 Conference’s track and field athlete of the week, the Big 12 announced Wednesday.

Fresh off of setting an indoor school record in the pole vault of 19 feet, .75 inches on April 14 at the Tom Botts Invitational, Bradford won the same event at the Michael Johnson Invitational last weekend with a top clearance of 18 feet, 8.75 inch-es.

His most recent win delivered his second-best mark of the season. And the school record he set a week ago remains the No. 1 mark in the NCAA so far this season.

Bradford is one of three Kansas pole vaulters who currently ranked in the NCAA’s top 10 entering this weekend. Senior Hussain Al Hizam owns the country’s third-best mark (18 feet, 8.25 inches) and senior Kyle Rogers sits in 10th (18 feet, .5 inches).

The Jayhawks will return to action this weekend in Fayetteville, Ark., at the John McDonnell Invitational.

KU will host the Rock Chalk Classic on April 30 and May 1 at Rock Chalk Park.
