The ninth-ranked Kansas volleyball team dropped its second consecutive match to No. 1 Texas on Friday night, falling in three sets, 25-20, 25-19, 25-15.
Friday marked the second night in a row that the Jayhawks (1-3) showed the ability to hang with the Longhorns (4-0) for large chunks of the match. But Texas never surrendered control and did its best work in the final set, racing out to a 14-5 lead before winning by double digits.
No Jayhawks reached double figures in kills on Friday, with senior Jenny Mosser leading the way with six. Rachel Langs, Ayah Elnady and Kim Whetstone each recorded five kills.
Elnady and Sara Nielsen paced the KU defense with eight digs apiece, and Nielsen also added 12 assists, second only to Elise McGhie’s team-best 14.
After opening the season with four straight matches against top-5 teams in Baylor and Texas, the Jayhawks will face West Virginia next Friday and Saturday at Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena.
The Mountaineers were picked to finish last in the Big 12 Conference preseason poll.
