For the third time this season, the Kansas women’s soccer team wound up on the right side of a 1-0 victory in a Big 12 Conference soccer match.

The sixth-ranked Jayhawks knocked off Sunflower State rival Kansas State, 1-0 in Manhattan on Friday night, with senior Mandi Duggan providing the game’s lone goal midway through the second half.

Duggan’s goal came off of an assist from transfer Rylan Childers at the top of the box, and Duggan outraced the K-State goalkeeper to the slow-rolling ball and drilled it into the back of the net.

Kathryn Castro, who scored the game-winner in last week’s victory over Texas Tech, also received an assist on the goal, after playing a quick ball to Childers to start the KU attack.

KU goalkeeper Sarah Peters and the Kansas defense have yet to surrender a goal this season. Peters’ shutout on Friday night was the 23rd of her KU career, moving her within five of tying the program’s all-time record.

The Jayhawks are now 3-0-0 or better for the third consecutive season and they lead the all-time series with Kansas State 3-1. The loss dropped the Wildcats to 0-3-0 on the season, with all three losses coming to top-10 foes.

KU will travel to Waco, Texas, next Friday to take on Baylor at 7 p.m.
