By J-W Staff Report     Nov 6, 2020

The 12th-ranked Kansas women’s soccer team earned its first draw of the 2020 season, 1-1 against Iowa State on Friday night at Rock Chalk Park.

KU senior Ceri Holland scored the game’s first goal in the 37th minute and the Jayhawks (4-3-1) took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Holland’s goal came off of her left foot on a cutback shot over the ISU keeper. It was her third of the season, which leads the team. Holland nearly picked up another goal in the first three minutes of the second half, but ISU’s Jordan Silkowitz made a diving save to keep ISU (2-6-1) in the match.

Iowa State’s Courtney Powell tied the game just before regulation time expired with a goal in the 90th minute.

Both teams had chances to take the victory in overtime, but both Silkowitz and KU’s Sarah Peters remained sharp in the net to preserve the tie.

The Jayhawks will close out the 2020 season on Sunday, Nov. 15 at home against Oklahoma in a game that was rescheduled from Sept. 18 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kickoff for the season finale is set for 1 p.m.
