KU tennis doubles team falls in final of ITA Summer Circuit Event

Incoming freshman Carmen Roxana Manu and rising KU sophomore Julia Deming competed for the first time as a doubles team this weekend and made a run to the final of the ITA Summer Circuit event in Wichita.

After receiving a bye in the Round of 16, Deming and Manu blanked their opponents, 8-0, on Saturday to move into the semifinals. The Jayhawks duo pulled out a narrow victory, 8-7(6), over Georgia Tech’s Victoria Flores and her partner to advance to the title match, where they dropped an 8-1 decision.

Manu reached the semifinals of the singles bracket this weekend in Wichita. Manu won her first match, 6-2, 6-1, and then reached the quarterfinals with a 6-3, 6-1 victory. Manu then bested Jessica Anzo of Texas A&M, 7-6(4), 6-4, to move on to the semifinals, where she lost to an opponent from Orlando, Florida, 6-1, 6-2.

Deming advanced through the first two rounds of play with two-straight 6-1, 6-0 victories. She then lost in the quarterfinals, 6-4, 6-1.
