Incoming Kansas freshman Vasiliki “Vasia” Karvouni has won her third singles crown at an Oracle Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Summer Circuit this summer.
Karvouni won the singles title in Manhattan, and then she teamed up with fellow incoming KU freshman Carmen Roxana Manu to claim the doubles crown.
Karvouni beat Oklahoma’s Ivana Corley, 6-3, 6-4, for the title in the 14-competitor field in the Women’s Singles A bracket. She had to beat Manu in the semis to get to the final, winning 6-3, 6-3. After receiving a first-round bye, Karvouni won in the quarterfinals, 6-0, 6-0. Meanwhile, Manu, originally from Constanta, Romania, won in the Round of 16, 6-1, 6-2, and then won her quarterfinal match over Oklahoma’s Kianah Montosono, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0(6).
Karvouni and Manu teamed up and brought home KU’s second doubles title of the ITA Summer Circuit by defeating a 10-team field. After a bye in the first round, they won each match of the quarterfinals, semifinals and final rounds by a 6-1 margin to claim their first title as a doubles team.
