Kansas University rower Tessa Scott and distance runner James Hampton were announced as two of the Big 12’s Dr. Prentice Gautt Postgraduate Scholarship recipients, the league announced Wednesday.
Twenty Big 12 student-athletes were selected for the $10,000 awards, which was named in honor of Gautt, a former Lawrence resident, Big 12 Conference staff member and student services’ pioneer who died in 2005.
The list of all-time recipients has grown to 381 since the inception of the league in 1996-97, with $2.7 million in graduate scholarships awarded.
Criteria for the awards includes a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, participation in at least two years of intercollegiate athletics at the nominee’s institution and completion of athletics eligibility. The student-athletes also must graduate from their respective member institutions within 15 months of their selection for a graduate scholarship.
