Kansas University junior forward Chelsea Gardner was named espnW’s Player of the Week on Monday, after scoring 28 points with 13 rebounds and three blocks in a victory against No. 7 Baylor on Sunday at Allen Fieldhouse.
Gardner is the first Jayhawk this season to win the award, which is voted on by a four-person ESPN panel.
The Big 12 also honored Gardner on Monday with its weekly award, her second of the season.
Gardner is fifth in the Big 12 in scoring with 16.3 points per game, eighth in the conference in rebounding with 7.6 per game and sixth with 1.67 blocks per game. And among players with at least 150 shot attempts, Gardner leads the Big 12 in field-goal percentage at 60.8 percent.
The Jayhawks (9-9 overall, 2-4 Big 12) host No. 11 Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Allen Fieldhouse.
