Georgtown coach John Thompson III, whose Hoyas were ranked 28th this week in the AP poll, spoke about the Jayhawks on Tuesday.
“They are very multifaceted,” he said. “They have a lot of different people and different ways that can hurt you. They’re getting to the foul line. They get fouled a lot. Last year, out there (in 86-64 loss to KU in Allen), we got in foul trouble quickly, and that is a concern. Then they have guys that can take you off the dribble, guys that can make shots. This is a very balanced team.”
Asked if it was important to win, he said: “You put games like this on your schedule to win. As much last year that I can remember, we weren’t in it offensively, defensively, for whatever the reasons the stars were not aligned properly last year. It was a difficult evening, a very, very difficult evening. So the guys that were here remember that, and if they’ve forgotten we’ve watched enough tape to remind them of that. Big picture I don’t know, national scene this that and the other, I don’t know. But it’s important that we play well against them.”
