Team Texas player Zach Peters, right, spins for a shot over Galveston Hornets player Sam Kinlaw during the Kansas City Classic AAU basketball tournament on Saturday at Okun Fieldhouse in Shawnee.

Zach Peters didn’t forget how to catch the football during his two-year hiatus from the sport.

Peters, a 6-foot-9, 235-pound future Kansas University basketball power forward from Prestonwood Christian High in Plano, Texas, caught nine passes for 86 yards and scored two touchdowns in Prestonwood’s 54-13 rout of Cistercian High on Friday night.

Peters caught 11 passes for 142 yards and a touchdown his freshman year, then concentrated fully on basketball the next two years. Friday, wide receiver Peters scored on a three-yard slant and 10-yard fade pass from senior quarterback Parker Ash.

The South Lake Times newspaper noted that Ash and Peters made the TD connection off the fade “look easy,” with Peters making the most of a huge height advantage over smaller defenders.

“There is a lot that goes into making that throw,” Prestonwood coach Chris Cunningham told the paper. “(Ash) has to put it in a place where the defensive back doesn’t have a chance. We work a lot on it in practice, and he did a good job of executing it.”

Peters will attend the Sept. 24 Legends of the Phog KU alumni basketball game with 6-8 Prestonwood junior basketball teammate Julius Randle, who is the No. 4-ranked player in the Class of 2013 by Rivals.com. Peters is ranked No. 144 by Rivals.com in the Class of 2012. He orally commited to KU on April, 21, 2010.

Ellis entertained by Cats: Kansas State basketball coach Frank Martin conducted an in-home visit with 6-8 Wichita Heights senior forward Perry Ellis on Monday night. KU coach Bill Self visited Ellis on Friday and Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall on Tuesday. Kentucky coach John Calipari will visit Friday.

“Perry is planning to decide which school is right for him after all his in-home visits,” Ellis’ mom, Fonda, told gopowercat.com. “He wants to give each school one last chance to really share their program and what their plans are for him.”

Ellis has yet to set up any campus visits.

“They (Wildcat coaches) asked if we thought about when to set up our official visit,” Ellis’ mom told the Website. “We said we have not set up any official visits yet. We are waiting to do this after all the in-home visits are completed.”

Tarczewski update: Kaleb Tarczewski, a 7-foot senior center from St. Mark High in Southborough, Mass., will not be visiting KU this weekend and Arizona on Sept. 24 after all, Rivals.com reports. A source close to Tarczewski told the Website Tarczewski had scheduled no visits at this time. He has a final three of KU, Arizona and North Carolina. It was reported by various Websites last weekend that Tarczewski would visit KU and Arizona in successive weeks.
