KU softball hands out end-of-season awards

Kansas University sophomore Maggie Hull won the Big Jay Award at the Jayhawks’ postseason awards banquet Friday.

Hull, a graduate of Free State High, hit a team-best .346 with 14 doubles and 49 RBIs, second-most runs ever driven in by a Jayhawk in a single season. The award is presented to the player “who best exemplifies the meaning of a KU student-athlete.”

Senior catcher Brittany Hile was named team MVP. She hit 13 home runs and had a slugging percentage of .637.

Other awards: Rookie of the year: Freshman pitcher Kristin Martinez. Most improved: Junior third baseman Marissa Ingle. Academic award: Sophomore outfielder Rosie Hull. Support staffer of the year: Justin Mackey.
