? Junior Brittany Hile’s sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning turned out to be the game-winner as the Kansas University softball team held on to defeat San Diego, 5-4, in the Jayhawks’ final contest of the San Diego Classic.

Earlier Saturday, freshman Alex Jones batted in a pair of runs with a two-out triple as KU defeated Illinois-Chicago, 7-5.

KU improved to 14-15 overall and concluded the tournament with a 3-3 mark. San Diego dropped to 9-15 on the season.

Against San Diego, the Jayhawks rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the top of the seventh inning. Hile hit a two-out RBI single up the middle to score the first run.

Next, USD walked three consecutive batters to load the bases and then walk in two runs, which gave Kansas a 4-3 lead.

Kansas will open Big 12 Conference play next weekend at Texas A&M.
