Kansas volleyball wins two

? Kansas University’s volleyball team defeated Xavier, 3-1, and Murray State, 3-0, on Saturday at the Middle Tennessee State University Invitational.

Karina Garlington had 13 kills, while Allison Mayfield and Paige Mazour each recorded 10 in KU’s 25-16, 25-19, 25-18 victory over MSU. Mazour also hit a team-high .500 attack percentage along with sophomore Lauren Hagan.

Hagan finished with a career-high seven kills in her first career start.

Defensively, Kansas had 46 digs, compared to MSU’s 33. Mayfield had a team-high 11 digs for her first career double-double.

KU was able to stay ahead of the Racers for most of set two, but MSU made it close. Ahead 21-18, Kansas strung together three straight points from a Garlington kill, a Melissa Manda service ace and a combined block by Nicole Tate and Mazour. Kansas put the set away shortly after with a solo block by Garlington, her second of the match.

In set three, the Jayhawks scored nine of the contest’s final 12 points to put the match away at 25-18.

Mazour had 14 kills, while Allison Mayfield had 11 and Brittany Williams seven in a 16-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-16 victory over Xavier.

KU improved to 2-1 on the season.
