UCLA center Kevin Love (42) shoots over Washington State forward Daven Harmeling. Love scored 27 points as the No. 5 Bruins handed No. 4 Washington State its first loss, 81-74, Saturday in Los Angeles.

? Washington State couldn’t make a dent against UCLA’s defensive pressure most of the game. When the Bruins let up, the Cougars unleashed a stunning barrage of three-pointers and still lost.

The fifth-ranked Bruins knocked the No. 4 Cougars from the unbeaten ranks Saturday with an 81-74 victory led by freshman Kevin Love’s eighth double-double of the season.

“I’d never seen anything like that,” Love said about the Cougars’ seven threes in the final 11â2 minutes.

“Wow,” marveled teammate Darren Collison.

Love had a career-high 27 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, while Collison added 18 points, and the Bruins (16-1, 4-0 Pac-10) won their ninth in a row and seventh straight over the Cougars.

Kentucky's Patrick Patterson celebrates after the Wildcats upset No. 13 Vanderbilt. Patterson scored 23 points in a 79-73 double-overtime victory Saturday in Lexington, Ky.

“For college, it’s probably my best game overall,” Love said.

Derrick Low scored 24 points after getting nothing in the first half for Washington State, which saw its best start in 91 years ended. The Cougars committed 13 turnovers, nine in the first half.

“Once you get in a little hole against a team as high-caliber as them, it’s going to be tough,” Low said. “They’re what a championship team is. That’s how we want to play.”

The Cougars (14-1, 2-1) still have just one victory in 51 games at UCLA.

Washington – Roy Hibbert’s uncontested three-pointer with four seconds left snapped a tie and capped his 20-point, eight-rebound performance for Georgetown (13-1, 3-0 Big East).

The go-ahead shot kept the 7-foot-2 Hibbert’s career college shooting percentage on threes perfect. He is 2-for-2, both taken this season.

UConn coach Jim Calhoun was at the arena but stayed in the coaches’ locker room at tipoff because of what the school called flu-like symptoms.

No. 8 Tennessee 80, South Carolina 56

They received a major challenge from the Billikens (9-7, 0-2), who set a modern Division I record Thursday for fewest points in a game.

No. 18 Clemson 97, Florida State 85, 2OT

Clemson, S.C. – Freshman Terrence Oglesby hit three of his six three-pointers in the second overtime for Clemson.

Oglesby, who earlier in the game had a four-point play, finally put away a contest where the Tigers (13-2, 1-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) needed buzzer-beaters to tie the game in regulation and the first extra period.

Cincinnati 69, No. 19 Villanova 66

Cincinnati – Rashad Bishop’s three-pointer with 22 seconds to play – the freshman forward’s only basket of the game – rallied Cincinnati over Villanova, which couldn’t hold a lead in the final minute.

It has been six years since the Yellow Jackets (7-8, 0-2) had such a poor overall record this late in the season.
