KU jumps to 5th in both polls, 4th in BCS rankings

Putting up 76 points on Nebraska must send some kind of message. The voters responded positively in KU’s favor on Sunday, voting the Jayhawks fifth in this weeks AP and USA Today Coaches polls. The computers were just as kind, bumping the Jayhawks to fourth in the BCS standings.

KU is one of three remaining undefeated teams in the FBS ranks. 10-0 Ohio State stayed atop the AP poll with 60 first place votes, followed by LSU, who took in five. Oregon and Oklahoma are directly ahead of the 9-0 Jayhawks. KU jumped both Arizona State and Boston College, who saw their undefeated seasons suffer blemishes Saturday against Oregon and Florida State, respectively.

The Jayhawks also leapfrogged 7-1 West Virginia, who is sixth, followed by Missouri, BC, Arizona State and Georgia to round out the Top 10.

In the BCS, Ohio State obviously remained on top, followed by LSU and Oregon ahead of KU. Oklahoma is ranked fifth in the current BCS standings. KU (.843) is ahead of Oklahoma (.839) by four one-hundredths of a point.

Officials from three of the four BCS bowls – Orange, Fiesta and Sugar – were on hand at Memorial Stadium Saturday to watch KU remain undefeated in front of a record crowd of 51,190.
