Kansas University’s Amanda Costner, who placed first at the Big 12 golf championships, on Thursday was named the league’s female sportsperson of the year.
Costner, who graduated with a degree in applied behavioral science, is the first Jayhawk athlete to receive the award.
Costner and Oklahoma’s Carl Peterson were were selected by a media panel. The Big 12’s recipients are nominated for the NCAA Sportsmanship Award.
Costner, who works with the Truancy Diversion Program, regularly takes junior high students to the driving range to experience the sport of golf.
