On the positive, senior guard Shaquina Mosley continued to carry the Jayhawks late in conference season, this time dropping a career-high 22 points.
On the back end of that, though, was a 67-57 Kansas University loss Wednesday night at home to Missouri, ending KU’s two-game refuge from an 0-9 start in Big 12 play.
It also broke a tie between the two teams tied at the bottom of the conference standings.
KU answered Missouri’s 8-0 lead to start the game with a 15-0 lead, but took a seven-point deficit into the half. KU pulled back within one on two occassions in the second stanza, but couldn’t close the deal, as KU shot just 28.8 percent from the floor in the second half.
Mizzou was led by EeTisha Riddle’s 15 points and 12 rebounds, plus 14 points from Alyssa Hollins. Freshman Sade Morris was the only other Jayhawk in double figures, scoring 10 off the bench, while fellow frosh Danielle McCray had nine points and a career-high 11 boards in her first start as a Jayhawk.
Missouri’s answer was a perfect 13-for-13 performance from the stripe in the game’s final 20 minutes. KU (8-17 overall, 2-10 Big 12) hosts Kansas State in a Sunflower Showdown rematch at 1 p.m. Sunday.
