Kansas University football coach Mark Mangino gave a resounding thumbs-up to the Jayhawks’ first football practice of the 2007 season.
“I really liked the tempo we had for a first practice out here,” Mangino said in a statement.
The practice was closed to media and fans.
“There was tremendous enthusiasm. The new players were learning. There are a lot of guys starting from scratch. The veteran players seem to have done a good job of retaining things from the spring. It was a very good start and I am very pleased.”
The Jayhawks will return to the field this morning, then hold an open practice to the public at 9 a.m. Sunday.
The practice will take place on the grass fields just west of Kansas’ baseball stadium, Hoglund Ballpark.
The Jayhawks will open the season against Central Michigan at 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 1.
