Iowa State soccer upends Jayhawks, 3-1

? Iowa State’s soccer team scored on its first two shots, both headers by senior Amy Flores, in a 3-1 victory over Kansas University on Sunday.

KU’s Nicole Braman tallied her first goal of the season to slice the deficit to 2-1 in the 59th minute. Junior Holly Gault deflected the ball to Braman, who buried a shot from eight-yards out.

Iowa State, which scored its two goals in the first 13 minutes, added an insurance goal with 8:32 left. Freshman Meghan Smith scored her first collegiate goal, giving ISU its two-goal margin.

KU outshot the Cyclones 12-4 in the first half and 21-12 in the match. Colleen Quinn made five saves in goal.

“Fairly disappointing game,” KU coach Mark Francis said. “We had a shot at ’em. : We just need to come back week, come back a against the Oklahoma schools. We need to get back on track.”

KU, 5-5-2 and 1-2-1 in the Big 12 Conference, will meet Oklahoma State at 4 p.m. Friday at Jayhawk Soccer Complex.
