? Senior goalkeeper Meghan Miller made three saves and picked up her Big 12 Conference-leading ninth shutout as Kansas University’s soccer team won its fifth straight, defeating Oklahoma State, 1-0, Friday at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.

KU improved to 13-2 overall, 5-1 in the Big 12.

Kansas controlled the flow in the first period, outshooting the Cowgirls, 16-3.

Senior Rachel Gilfillan scored the only goal — her sixth of the season — at the 42:19 mark of the first period. After Kansas was awarded a corner kick, sophomore Nicole Cauzillo fired the ball toward the net, where Gilfillan was waiting. Gilfillan redirected the pass beyond the reach of Oklahoma State goalkeeper Breanna Truelove.

Truelove kept the Cowgirls (10-3-2, 2-3-1 Big 12) in the match, making 10 saves.

The Cowgirls outshot KU, 7-6, in the second half.

“We played pretty well, I was impressed with our team tonight,” Kansas coach Mark Francis said. “We had 22 shots, and 12 of them were on goal, so we were creating a lot of chances. Their goalkeeper played very well. She had 10 saves, and three or four of them were unbelievable. I would have liked to have seen us finish a little better, but we played well. Anytime you can go on the road and get a win in the Big 12, that is an accomplishment. I’m pretty happy, but now we have to focus on Sunday’s game with Oklahoma.”

The Jayhawks collected 22 shots, just two off their season-high, which came Oct. 1 when they had 24 against Texas Tech. Kansas now is 5-2 in one-goal games this season.

The Jayhawks will travel Sunday to Norman, Okla., to take on OU at 1 p.m.
