KU-KSU to celebrate fieldhouse anniversary

By J-W Staff Reports     Aug 10, 2004

Kansas University’s men’s basketball team will celebrate a major anniversary when playing Kansas State on March 2, 2005, at Allen Fieldhouse.

The game, which has been approved by the Big 12 Conference, will take place 50 years and one day after the first game in the fieldhouse — KU’s 77-66 victory over KSU.

The teams are planning to wear throwback jerseys during the contest. KU will play the return game against the Wildcats on Feb. 9 at Bramlage Coliseum.

Also known is KU will meet Texas Tech on Valentine’s Day in Lubbock, Texas, as part of the ESPN Big Monday television package. Another special occasion in league play will be the Jayhawks playing host to Texas on Jan. 29, with ESPN’s crew holding its pre- and postgame shows in Lawrence. KU will play host to Missouri and play at Oklahoma in other Big Monday outings.

KU’s schedule has not been released because the Jayhawks still are looking for a final opponent and several starting times are not yet set.
