Charlie Gruber won the 1,500-meter run Sunday at a three-country meet in Munich, Germany. It was the former Kansas University runner’s final tuneup prior to the Athens Olympics.

Competing against athletes from France and Germany, Gruber was timed in a relatively pedestrian 3:43.89. Gruber was clocked at 3:34.71 at a race last month in Belgium.

Gruber’s first race in Athens will be at 11:35 a.m. (Lawrence time) Aug. 20. The semifinal round is Aug. 22, and the finals Aug. 24.
