Three KU golfers honored by coaches

Kansas University seniors Casey Harbour and Travis Hurst and KU junior Chris Marshall all have been honored by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Harbour, who just completed his fourth year of eligibility, was one of 86 student-athletes selected to receive Academic All-America accolades. Harbour was also selected as an Academic All-American last season.

“Casey has done a great job on the course as well as in the classroom,” KU coach Ross Randall said. “It is difficult to achieve this honor and it is a great accomplishment for him to get it twice.”

Harbour is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 winner, most recently in the 2002 season, as well as a nine-time Jayhawk Scholar. Harbour has played in 45 events as a member of the Jayhawk team and has finished in the top 10 five times. He sports a career stroke average of 74.93.

To qualify for selection student-athletes must maintain a 3.2 grade point average or higher, must have participated in 70 percent of his team’s scheduled events and maintain a stroke average under 76.

Hurst and Marshall were selected as two of the top 15 players in the Central Region and were named to the All-Central Region team.

“I am very happy for both of them on this honor. To be honored at the end of the season is a goal that both of them had,” Randall said. “Chris had a very steady season and very good placings in some top tournaments for us. Travis also finished strong and nearly made it to the NCAA Finals.”

Hurst played in 25 events as a member of the Jayhawk team and recorded 11 top-10 finishes. He owns a career stroke average of 72.82. This season, Hurst recorded seven top-10 finishes as well as setting a career best 18-hole score by shooting a 64 in the first round of the Prestige at Palm Desert.

Marshall was also chosen as one of 28 Honorable Mention All-America selections, adding to his All-Big 12 First Team selection earlier this season. He has played in 29 events while at KU and holds a career stroke average of 73.55. He also holds 11 top-10 finishes in his KU career.
