Blakeney wins Ashe award

Kansas University men’s tennis player Quentin Blakeney has been awarded the Tennis Magazine/Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award for the Central Region, the Intercollegiate Tennis Assn. announced Friday.

Blakeney is now eligible for the national Arthur Ashe award, which will be announced Wednesday in Athens, Ga., the site of the 2001 NCAA Championships. Blakeney has a 34-6 record in singles.

He will compete in singles and doubles at next week’s NCAA meet.
