Harbour records ace at regional golf meet

? Kansas University junior Casey Harbour’s first shot of the day was his finest Friday at the NCAA Midwest Regional golf championships at Karsten Creek GC.

Harbour used a 7-iron to ace the par-3, 175-yard No. 11 hole his opening hole on a rain-delayed shotgun round.

See the 6Sports report on the tournament.

Harbour, who also had a hole-in-one at regionals last season, traversed the 18 holes in 3-over-par 75 and stands in 131st place overall in the tournament.

As a team, the Jayhawks enter today’s final round in a tie for 18th place, eight strokes out of 10th. Ten of 27 teams advance to the NCAA championships.

KU senior Andy Stewart followed his opening-round 66 with a 76 and is in fifth place at 142. Travis Hurst is 66th at 78-73293.

“I am disappointed,” Kansas coach Ross Randall said. “Today everybody lost a couple of shots on the last few holes. It turned a score of 292, which would be a good score, in to a 300. Our chances (of making the NCAA Tournament) are remote at best. It’s not out of the realm of possibility, but we are in a bad afternoon pairing.”

He was tickled Harbour was able to land a hole-in-one after a two-hour rain delay.

“We were out there figuring out what club to use. He picked the right one,” Randall said. “Casey has a hole-in-one on his first swing of the day. We didn’t play very well after that.”
