OKLAHOMA CITY ? Texas A&M scored seven runs in the seventh inning Thursday night to defeat top-seeded Oklahoma, 9-6, in the Big 12 softball tournament.
Kelly Ferguson hit a two-run homer in the big inning, which gave the fourth-seeded Aggies (31-20) a 9-3 lead and made three runs by Oklahoma in the bottom of the inning incidental. Texas A&M took advantage of four OU errors to score eight unearned runs.
Selena Collins had two hits, including a home run, and four RBIs for A&M.
The fourth-ranked Sooners (56-7) fell into the loser’s bracket, where they will play Texas this morning in an elimination game.
Oklahoma had no trouble winning its first-round game earlier Thursday. After falling behind 3-0 in the first inning, the Sooners rolled to an 8-3 victory over Missouri.
Lisa Carey, voted player of the year by conference coaches on Wednesday, was 3-for-3 with two runs scored in the first game. Mandy Fulton homered and drove in three runs, and Andrea Davis had two RBIs.
Second-seeded Nebraska (47-18) won both its games Thursday to run its winning streak to 15 games.
In the first game, Jenny Voss threw a four-hitter and Jennifer Lizama had two hits and two RBIs in a 5-1 victory over Iowa State. The Cornhuskers scored three runs in the sixth inning of their second game to beat Texas Tech, 4-1. Kim Ogee had two hits.
Also Thursday, Angie Long’s run-scoring single in the ninth inning gave Texas A&M a 3-2 victory over Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech scored five times in the sixth to upset third-seeded Texas, 8-4.
Later, Missouri eliminated Oklahoma State 4-2, with Stacy Gemeinhardt getting three hits. And Texas beat Iowa State 4-3 to eliminate the Cyclones. Jodi Reeves had two hits and two RBIs for Texas.
