Portland, Ore., blue-chip prep point guard Aaron Miles had hoped to attend the same Midnight Madness as his buddy Josh Childress.

“I wanted to, but it got mixed up,” Miles said.

Miles, a 6-foot, 170-pounder considering attending Kansas, Arizona and UCLA and to a lesser extent, Oregon, has committed to attending Midnight Madness on Oct. 13 at the University of Arizona.

Childress, a 6-5 guard from Lakewood, Calif., who is considering KU, Arizona, UCLA, Stanford and North Carolina, has committed to attend Kansas’ Late Night With Roy Williams along with Jamal Sampson, a 6-10 center from Santa Ana, Calif. Sampson’s list of schools include KU, UConn, Syracuse and Virginia.

“They are my boys,” Miles said Monday, referring to Childress and Sampson.

Miles will be joined by yet another KU recruit 6-9 Halstead forward Dennis Latimore at Arizona’s Midnight Madness. Also, prep center Rick Rickert of Minnesota will attend Zona’s season-opening practice.

Miles has yet to set up a campus visit to KU.

He’s not set up a date for Roy Williams’ in-home visit yet, either. He will definitely visit KU, he says.

“Mr. Williams is a great person,” Miles said. “He has recruited me a long time. That means a lot to me right there.”

KU coach Williams scouted two or three of Miles’ games last year, even before Miles emerged as a top national recruit.

Miles he averaged 13 points and seven assists a year ago at Jefferson High exploded on the national scene during the summer.

He dominated at various events the Olympic Festival in Colorado Springs, Colo.; the Players Association camp in Washington, D.C.; the Nike camp in Indianapolis; the Peach Jam tourney in Augusta, Ga. and the Big Time Tourney in Las Vegas.

“It was a very productive summer,” Miles said.

He’s currently “lifting weights and working out,” waiting for his senior year at Jefferson High to begin.

Lee’s trips: The mother of David Lee, a 6-9 forward from St. Louis, recently visited the campuses of Duke and North Carolina on her own. The Lees have family living in Tar Heel country.

She now has visited the campuses of each of David’s finalists KU, Missouri, Duke, North Carolina, Florida, Illinois and Kentucky.

“There is no down time when you do these trips. Even during dinner when you are eating the coaches are talking,” she told analyst Mike Sullivan, noting she was impressed with coaches Matt Doherty of UNC and Mike Krzyzewski of Duke.
