Two former Kansas University offensive linemen were let go by their respective teams Sunday as NFL squads cut their rosters to 53 players.
Michael Lies was waived by Dallas in the Cowboys’ final preseason cut. Lies, a 6-foot-3, 300-pound free-agent guard, played at Kansas from 1996 to 1998. The Wichita native failed to make the final cut of the Carolina Panthers last season.
Guard Chris Banks, an All-Big Eight Conference selection in 1995 and Denver’s seventh-round draft pick in 1996, was cut by the Broncos.
Nine other former Jayhawks were listed on NFL preseason rosters. They are: DB Tony Blevins, Indianapolis Colts; DB Kwamie Lassiter, Arizona Cardinals; DT Dana Stubblefield, Washington Redskins; OG Rod Jones, Cincinnati Bengals; WR Isaac Byrd, Tennessee Titans; LB Don Davis, Tampa Bay Bucs; NT Gilbert Brown (unsigned), Green Bay Packers; DB Gerald McBurrows, Atlanta Falcons; OL Dan Dercher, San Francisco 49ers.
