Update: Here are the Kansas senior speeches that I was able to record. I didn't get Travis Releford's at the end (iPhone ran out of free space), but it should be cued up to his speech in the bottom video below.

Jeff Withey has to be one of the most improved players in college basketball history.

I think Ben is the first freshman Self has ever mentioned on senior night. Well deserved ! Rock Chalk !!!
dlshaw74 2 months, 2 weeks ago
That's because the number recruit was in attendance, Andrew Wiggins. Thats the only reason. Smart move on Self. Use every advantage you can to persuade Wiggins that this is the place. Can you imagine if Ben is the #1 pick in the 2013 draft and Wiggins commits to KU and would be the #1 pick in the 2014 draft.
JayhawkMarshall 2 months, 2 weeks ago
Ben earned the recognition. I'm sure Bill would have done that anyway.
trojanhawk 2 months, 2 weeks ago
Definitely not the only reason. With or without Wiggins in attendance, McLemore earned some high praise from Coach in his final home game at KU. Passing up Manning for PPG as a freshman - on a team full of seniors - is not something we'll likely never see again.
cap10d 2 months, 2 weeks ago
Didnt think about that. Did Wiggins and his parents stay for the speaches I hope ?
oldalum 2 months, 2 weeks ago
He did the same thing for TRob last year, so while he wasn't a freshman, he was a junior and not expected to be back. I suspect he would have done it whether Wiggins was there or not.
phogphan2000 2 months, 2 weeks ago
You also have to consider that BMac could have gone somewhere that would have let him play last year as a partial qualifier. Instead he stuck with KU, helped last year's team get better in practice, and then played like a superstar this year.

Is Jeff's speech hidden in one of the other speeches, or did I just overlook it?
Jesse Newell 2 months, 2 weeks ago
Just posted it. It's above.

Read the paragraph above the clips. Jesse did an awesome job. However, he should have got the 64Gb iPhone instead of the 32Gb:)

I may be the only one who can't get youtube videos (in mainland China), but there are probably a few others; so I hope the audios will also be separately available.Would love to hear the speeches!

You just need to get a VPN, like Astrill, HMA or Strong. Works like a charm in the PRC and you can get to anywhere on the internet.

Thanks so much for posting. My son had a band concert tonight and we missed the second half. Had to hurry home to watch it recorded. This is a great senior class.

Anyone see video of the Pop-Up that they showed Coach watching on the sidelines? I would love to see that.

Coach Manning was in the house. I was hoping someone would have mentioned that Coach Manning coached them for three years.

I feel sorry for you, then. You're going to have a lot of early wrinkles.
Warning: If you don't want to read about religion, then skip the rest of this post!
I don't know how much these guys do or do not glorify God with their lifestyles, by the way that they love and serve others, and I haven't heard Travis Releford's speech yet, but I am glad that Young, EJ and Withey all thanked God. In fact, I thank God that they thanked God, and I hope that they are living life as proof of God's love for all humanity.
My guess is that very few people paid heed of my warning.
STLJayhawk10 2 months, 2 weeks ago
love for all of humanity? like those starving kids in africa? or the millions of people he killed in that so called book to life...

Sorry for preaching!
I don't know why God, in the old testament had to flood the earth and destroy civilizations to bring his judgment. I do know that in the old testament he gave Israel the law, but try as they may, none of them could keep the law.
So, God decided to intervene in a way that none of us deserved. John 3:16 says that God loves the world so much that he has provided a way that we can all be spared his judgment if we will just believe on him. I say believe on him, and not believe in him, because by believing on him I am insinuating that we have to place our trust in him. The Bible says that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for you and that if you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord you will be saved.
Jesus was the ultimate impact player. He turned the tables on the hypocrites of his day, much like he would the ones of today. He loved the broken, the sinners, and the downtrodden, and he is the standard for all believers. Yet for some reason we continue to give ourselves a bad name by being judgmental, when in reality the reason Christians become hypocrites is because they believe that they are "holier than thou". I for one am not "holier than thou". I am a sinner who has been forgiven, and I want others to be forgiven too. All you have to do is ask and receive.
Done.

Thanking God for the physical abilities and mental will is fine, it shows humility. Players who thank God for victories must think God had money on the game!

I think it's a reflection of Bill to some degree. Roy was much more emotional and attached to his players. It's not a knock on Bill by any means. I don't think he loves them any less, but he likes to keep it light.
The Vaughn, Haase, Pollard, Williams senior night was incredible. I was mess. Everybody was a mess. I get choked up even thinking about it. If a player like Johnson had been playing for Williams, I guarantee he would've broken down during his speech.
I mean, nearly everybody broke down while Roy was here. Here's CB McGrath's speech. He even jokes about players making side bets on whether he would cry or not. He said he wouldn't but then did, while thanking Roy for giving him a chance. It's on ESPN, by the way. And Max does the intros.

Hey, if anybody can find the Vaughn, Haase or Pollard speech, please post it. For some reason I can't find them.
The whole thing has a completely different feel with Self. He's SO good with the mic. Confident, funny, honest and appreciative. The guy is master. He just doesn't like to cry.
sleepy33 2 months, 2 weeks ago
I agree, plus I think Bill recognizes that none of them have seemed overly emotional at this point, they are still very much focused on the end of the season, so maybe he doesn't want to get them thinking about things ending and being emotional about leaving. He wants to keep them in the exact headspace they currently occupy, which is awesome.
KoolKeithFreeze 2 months, 2 weeks ago
Interesting point. They stay focused on the task at hand, and even commented that it hadn't quite hit them that it was their last game at Allen because they were so focused on the fact that they had a lot more work to do. Perhaps this is indicative of a difference between Self and Roy, and their post-season successes at KU...

CB McGrath's senior speech was the best of them all. When he thanked Roy for "just giving me a chance", sorry, I like everyone else who saw it teared up quickly.

Thanks for posting these. But I gotta say that its hard to understand half of what they say with all the background noise and echo. Would there be any way to get a feed from the PA system?

I'm grateful for Jesse's iPhone recording of this and all, but I noticed other cameras on the floor during the speeches. With the technology we have today, KU can't post these (or the butt-kicking pre-game intro video, for that matter) on their website? An iPhone with a low battery and horrible sound is the best we can do? I know that back in the day we didn't even have that luxury, but 10 years from now we won't remember a time when these videos weren't posted online, so why not now?

Actually, back in the day ESPN was playing them. The link I posted above has the ESPN logo in the corner. Don’t know why they don’t do it now.
