Kansas University basketball player Thomas Robinson has a hearing set for May 23 for a misdemeanor battery case in Lawrence Municipal Court after his attorney entered an appearance for him.

Lawrence police cited 20-year-old Robinson, a KU sophomore, Monday in connection with an April 10 altercation outside The Cave, a nightclub inside The Oread hotel, 1200 Oread Ave.

A bouncer alleged that Robinson struck him on the head during a large disturbance about 2 a.m. April 10.

Lawrence police have said Robinson was the only one cited in connection with the incident so far but that it was still under investigation.

Robinson’s attorney in the case, Al Lopes, who played basketball at KU from 1964 to 1966, is the same one who helped negotiate a diversion agreement for another player, Mario Little, in a battery case earlier this year.

Little was accused of pushing his 22-year-old ex-girlfriend into a sink during a Dec. 16 incident.

Anger management counseling was part of Little’s diversion agreement.
