Former Jayhawks join Team NBA

Former KU guards Russell Robinson and Billy Thomas will be playing for Team NBA in the 2009 NBA Asia Challenge, which starts Saturday in Seoul, Korea. It’s a team of NBA developmental league players and former NBA players.

The U.S. squad will play the KBL All Stars on Saturday and ET Iland Backslammers on Sunday in Korea, then play the PBA All-Stars on Sept. 11 in the Philippines.

Robinson, who played for Reno last year and Thomas, who played for Colorado in the NBA Developmental League last year, will be joined on Team NBA by fellow D-League players Derrick Dial, Chris Ellis, Marcus Hubbard and Lanny Smith. NBA legends Tim Hardaway, Robert Horry, Dominique Wilkins, and Vlade Divac also will be on the squad.

Dakota coach Rory White will coach the team and be assisted by NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

When did Robert Horry retire?

I think the originators of this article need to check Websters for the definition of 'legend'.

According the The Sandlot, "Heroes live forever, but legends never die." In this case, I think maybe they are assuming that if a basketball player appeared on the video game NBA JAM that said player will never 'die'.

hey boys and girls, slightly off the subject, but the Hawks v Memphis (plus Ark v Lou) tix went on sale yesterday at You can search the Scottrade Center, that was about the easiest way to find them.

A chance to school Memphis and heckle Pittino, what more could you ask for?

Team NBA... made up of people who aren't in the NBA. Great marketing. Like an Egg-Cream or Grape Nuts... the name and product don't actually go together at all.

mjlindsm, Hardaway was a 5 time all star, Wilkins a 9 time all star dubbed "the human highlight film", Horry won 5 championships, Divac is a stretch I'll agree.

ET Iland Backslammers: sounds like someone learning English is naming teams.

RussRob - tear 'em apart!

Is the KBL the Korean Basketball League, or the Kansas Basketball League in Korea? :-)

Performers perform. Actors act. Players play.

Ya gotta go where the gig is to develop yourself.

during breaks.... it would be awesome to hear Hardaway break out with a Jazz version of " vlade daddy, we lieks to party....." with jazz soloist Kareem Abdul Jabbar with the accompaniment

Man, I really want to see Russell break into the NBA. He deserves it.
