Oh, it is on now. Or at least it soon will be.

In a sign that WNIT fever is growing in the city, Lawrence Mayor Mike Dever made a wager with Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio.

For those of you who haven’t quite read through all of your WNIT program, Tampa is home to the University of South Florida. In case you really haven’t read your program, South Florida is KU’s opponent in Saturday’s WNIT National Championship game at Allen Fieldhouse on Saturday.

Dever and Iorio made their friendly wager: The loser has to wear the other team's colors during a day at work.

So, green and gold if the Bulls of South Florida win, and of course, Crimson and Blue, if the 'Hawks win.

How about... if KU wins, South Flordia gives up their win against the football team this year.

And if we lose... South Flordia can have the WNIT championship.

Glad I'm not the only one that remembers all that nonsense with the trip to Tampa ...

Dear lord, I've never seen such a crazy crowd, in two trips to Columbia, two trips to Arrowhead for the Border War and one trip to Manhattan!

But I digress ...

Man, how long has Iorio been there? I moved back from St. Pete a few years ago, and she was the mayor then.

I'm gonna guess oranges versus barbecue ...

There's this great citrus winery nearby - hold out for a bottle of that!

I think I've driven past that citrus winery many times. I'm gonna have to try it now.

I agree, being at that football game was harsh, and I'm going to enjoy a WNIT win over the Bulls enough to rub it some friends faces. Problem is, people down here don't give a crap about basketball.

I was thinking that the Tampa Mayor should have to pour beer all over herself, throw rocks at her car, and have all of her aides scream obscenities 2 inches from her face for a day.

Isn't that appropriate after the way Tampa treated KU fans?

Sevenyear Hawk,

Mayor Iorio hs been in power for 6 years now. She is probably going to run for US Senator in 2010 to fill Mel Martinez seat. She was Supervisor of Elections when you were in St Pete.

She came up from the bottom of Hillsborough County office holders. SHe has done a very good job (IMHO) as mayor. No nonesense and not a typical political hack at all.

GO HAWKS!

I was at the South Florida football game and my son and I had no issues with their fans whatsoever. The only thing that could have made the trip better was a win. I still remember how dismal we were in the 3rd quarter.

After the game, more than one Bulls fan walked up to my son and I (we were wearing #10 and #5 KU jerseys) and complemented us on how impressed they were with Reesing and Meier.

@Fla

Two things:

that's why I remember her name ... but she must have just gotten elected when we moved back, because I distinctly remember her, the guy who was mayor of St. Pete and the Clearwater mayor on a podium when the Bucs won the Super Bowl ...

Is there a watch party anywhere in Tampa/St. Pete for KU/USF game? I know lots of other Florida Hawks are asking ...

I remember watching a KU Football game (and some basketball) at Fergs.

And there was this sportsbar in a strip mall just north of Tyrone Mall and the Target ... I can't remember the name of it, but it was on the east side of the road.

I remember watching KU play Holy Cross there in the tourney, and when Hinrich went out. there were at least three dozen Hawks there.

What's the name of that freaking place?!
