Football fans making the hike to Kansas University's Memorial Stadium no longer can tote their belongings in backpacks.
That's the word from Kansas Athletics Inc., which has banned backpacks from the stadium on game days.
"In an effort to comply with all Homeland Security recommendations and provide the safest atmosphere for our coaches, players and fans, backpacks are no longer allowed in Memorial Stadium," the athletics department said in a message posted on its Web site. "We apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause."
Some other bags, such as small purses, will continue to be allowed inside the stadium, said Jim Marchiony, an associate athletics director.
"Diaper bags are fine," he said. "If parents show up with a baby and a bag, with diapers and that stuff in it, they'll be fine."

I want to take my camera this year, an SLR with 180mm telephoto lens. Does anyone know if I can take this into the stadium? (It replaces the whisky flask of my misspent youth).
