The Keegan Ratings
Chalmers quite clutch
After each KU basketball game this season, this is where you can find out the hardwood equivalent of The Nielsen Ratings from Journal-World sports editor Tom Keegan. He'll rate the Jayhawk scholarship players' individual performances, telling you who was worth tuning in to watch. If you agree or maybe even differ, make sure to comment and tell Tom how you really feel. (Scoring: Each week, the top player in the ratings will be awarded 10 points. Second best gets nine points. Third best gets eight points, and so on and so on. The season standings are at the bottom)
1. Mario Chalmers: Did far more than hit the game-winning 3-point shot. Outscored O.J. Mayo and outplayed him because unlike Mayo, he didn’t force the action.
2. Darnell Jackson: Had a career-high 13 rebounds in a game in which no one else was in double figures. Another strong start from the active center.
3. Russell Robinson: Couldn’t get his open 3-point shots to fall, but did such a good job hounding Mayo that Mayo ended up forcing up bad shots.
4. Rodrick Stewart: With the USC student section hammering him with chants of “Lodrick’s better” in reference to his twin, a former USC star, Rodrick contributed another solid effort. Had the smarts to pass the ball out to Chalmers on the winning possession.
5. Sasha Kaun: His shaky hands prevented him from getting more than two rebounds, but he deserves credit for contributing a strong, active, physical defensive effort.
6. Darrell Arthur: Took far too many outside shots, had five turnovers and fouled out in the final minute. Needs to say closer to the basket.
7. Brandon Rush: Against the athletic Trojans, Rush’s lack of pre-surgery explosiveness was more noticeable. He also had the worst miss of his career when he came down with a lob and with nobody near him left the shot that he put back up way short. He did come up with a huge steal late in the game.
8. Cole Aldrich: Isn’t ready for prime time defensively yet and was whistled for two quick fouls at the end of the first half.

Hey Keegan.!!! you think KU gards need to handle the ball better if they wanna play big boys like UNC,Duke,Memphis in tourney?

Again...a guard leading the team in rebounding...KU is in dire need of a dominant inside big man...someone who refuses to let the other team get the ball and who will attack the rim on the offensive end of the court.

A guard didn't lead us in rebounding, D Jackson did. Keegan, how do the ratings work if more than 10 guys get in the game? Shouldn't our guy shooting 80% from three at least get some points in the Keegan ratings?

I couldn't agree more with you Keegan. Arthur needs to stay low and stop trying to create things. Leave that to our guards. Jackson is THE KEY to our team this year. We need him to play big against big opponents. Turnovers hurt us most of last season, I was hoping our experience would give us a head start this year. Too bad Aldrich won't be much of a factor this year, hopefully we've recruited some big boys.
