KU's bigs dominate ratings

1. Cole Aldrich: Put smiles on the faces of many family members by producing 19 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots.

2. Marcus Morris: After starting the game on fire, fell into a rut of missing bunny after bunny, but at least he kept grabbing his own misses and putting them back up. Finished with 16 points and seven rebounds, six on the offensive boards. Has played very well for four games in a row.

3. Jeff Withey: Surpassed career minutes in one game and made the most of his 12 minutes. Did a super job of defending Craig Brackins and showed skill and athleticsm in producing eight points, five rebounds and a blocked shot.

4. Brady Morningstar: Making second consecutive start, showed aggressiveness driving to the hoop and finished with seven points, seven rebounds and three assists.

5. Sherron Collins: Was guilty a couple of times of taking bad shots early in the shot clock, but as the game wore on he realized it wasn’t his day shooting-wise and looked to set up teammates. Had 11 points and six assists.

6. Tyshawn Taylor: Played well with seven points, five rebounds and a steal in 13 minutes. But immediately after hitting a three-pointer from the right corner allowed an old bad habit to resurface and stood up too straight, getting beaten on the dribble, which caused him to reach in for a bad foul.

7. Thomas Robinson: Did a decent job defensively against Craig Brackins, but still is a turnover waiting to happen and commits too many fouls. Never stops hustling though.

8. Xavier Henry: Misfired on all six three-point attempts and produced just four points and two rebounds in 19 minutes.

9. Tyrel Reed: Made 1 of 3 three-pointers and had two assists without a turnover.

10. Markieff Morris: Had three points, one rebound, two assists and four personal fouls in seven minutes.

11. Elijah Johnson: Didn’t get in until the final minute.

nitpicking... But Marcus Morris only had 5 points and 4 boards against Tennessee. He has only played well the last four games in a row.

jayhawkjoe — Good catch. It's been fixed above.

jnewell- where was the live feed today?

Two words... COLE'S BACK!!!

It was great to see Mc Morris put together another high scoring and consistent game on defense.

Worst part of the day: Texas lost, therefore no way of KU and TU being ranked #1 and #2 entering their match up.

Withey and Aldrich in the game at the same time. HCBS is starting to realize Withey can add a new dimension to the game both offensively and defensively. Throw in Morris and it could be an outstanding 3 man post rotation. X is starting to worry me.

NOt so fast my friend... you think texas will lose to tech , or baylor at home.... or Oklahoma or state on the road..... not likely.... most likely is state on the road..... but not likely because pIttman will eat the Pokes lunch down low.....

Kentucky has road S. Carolina and Home Vandy and that could be two in a row there.... "nova's got Notre Dame, Seton Hall and Georgetown before that poll comes out....and face it no one's schedule is looking easy right now.....

WE got Mizzou, K-state, COlorado and Nebraska to worry about before we even think we can be 1 or 2 heading into the texas game....

It's totally possible on all fronts..... but let's see where they are and what happens on monday before we start hoping for 1 v. 2.... All signs point to us Playing them in the big 12 title game again.... it may be 1 v. 2 then

On the bright side, look at the variety on offense:

  • Inside presence: Cole, Withey, Marcus, and Markieff had one great move
  • Drives to the basket: lots of guys had at least one good drive
  • Midrange game (non-existent until now) : Marcus was perfect
  • Even the alley-oops are back!

Plus lots of different players rebounding.

This team can dominate when it's cold from the arc.

On another subject, kenpom.com projects North Carolina with 16 wins at the end of the regular season, and KU with 28. That would make a total of 2000 wins vs. 1998. The chances of us getting to 2000 before them are extremely small, but with a great season we could pass them in total wins. Imagine Sherron as the winningest KU player and leading KU past UNC in total wins!

Speaking of which, does anyone know what the record is for "winningest KU player?" Where are those stats published? For once, Google has failed me...

Cole was fantastic again. Good to see the big man back to his better ways.

Cus looked great in the first half. As for his rebounds I think he got 4 in two plays in which he rebounded his missed bunnies. One defensive rebound is weak but still had a good game. He really has come a long way.

Withey was a breath of fresh air. We have the twin towers times 2.

I really just want to enjoy the journey this season brings. I need Tyshawn to just hang in there because one day/game the switch will turn on the light making him the force we all want him to be.
