Only 25 days until KU-Central Michigan, which means only 25 days until the ‘Who will start at quarterback’ controversy is laid to rest…for one day. With that said, lets talk football.**_-[Chuck Woodling][1] wrote a [great column][2] this week_** about Willie Pless’ name being added to the Ring of Honor at Memorial Stadium, and it will be unveiled at said KU-Central Michigan game.At the end of his piece, Chuck pointed out that [John Riggins][3] and [Mike McCormack][4], two of three KU products to ever land in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, are still missing. They’re also the only two former Jayhawk gridders in the KU Athletic Hall of Fame not to be seen in the Ring of Honor. There’s no point in arguing why they belong in there, because facts don’t change, and that’d just be beating a horse which met its demise years and years and years ago.Honestly, I never saw McCormack or Riggins play. McCormack retired 20 years before I was born, and Riggo’s playing career wrapped up when I was at the ripe age of three (though I have seen his [famous run from Super Bowl XVII][5] a zillion times thanks to the eighth wonder of the world – NFL Films).See, and that’s the thing – I’m 25 and have no recollection of either of the two, so chances are that a 17- or 18-year-old recruit having any idea of what the two did is much less likely in a day and age when NFL success is sold as much as possible in the recruiting battlefields.McCormack was enshrined in Canton in 1984, and Riggins in 1992. The fact that the two weren’t honored in any of the numerous chances to do so since then is a joke. The thing is, it’s been so long now that it’s not even that big of a deal anymore, and that’s sad. They still should be up there at some point, especially at a school which prides itself so much on tradition.**_-The other big news in Jayhawkland last week_** involved another former KU athlete. Well, sort of.[The Kevin Garnett trade][6], the one which could help shift some of the NBA’s power balance back to the Eastern Conference (finally) gave former Jayhawk [Paul Pierce][7] a fighting chance at making his legacy as the Celtics’ best player of the past decade something truly unforgettable. The trade looked a little more than lopsided on paper. I mean, yeah, Garnett is still the most freakish power forward in the NBA, but talk about giving up a ton of young talent in return for what will probably be the final three or four quality years of Garnett’s career. True, a Celtics team with Garnett, Pierce and Ray Allen is now probably the favorite in the East to get to the NBA Finals next season. In the long run, though, I think the real winners are the Minnesota Timberwolves (As much as it might pain my buddy K-Vaz to hear that). Aside from a pair of first round picks down the road, you get back four players who are far from entering their respective primes (Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair and Ryan Gomes), who go along with a couple of nice young pieces already in place (Corey Brewer, Randy Foye, Craig Smith, Rashad McCants). They’ll get battered in the West for a couple of years, but when the current regime wears out, such as Dallas, San Antonio and Phoenix, Minnesota will be able to take the cap space it’s conserved by dumping Garnett to keep the young players who are truly worth signing to long term deals.Plus, while Boston is now an overnight contender, titles are never guaranteed. A title shot will only be worth what the Celtics make of it.Man, you know you’re ready for football to start when you’re going in-depth on NBA trades in a KU-related blog…**_-A couple of nuggets_** before this week’s videos.***I’m officially done listening** to Colin Cowherd’s ESPN Radio program on my drive into work. It’s well known that the guy loves himself more than just about any national radio personality out there, but last week, he put me over the top.He was discussing helping out with a charity function in Las Vegas over the weekend, and ultimately got on the subject of an interesting conversation he had with some oddsmakers about how intensive their job is. But, of course, to pad the two, he decided to point out that the charity function raised more money this year than it had in its previous three years in which he was not involved. Thanks for the nugget, Colin.***For those of you Greene Room readers in Lawrence**, you’ve got to get to Ingredient on the corner of 10th and Massachussetts. I’m not trying to throw a shameless plug here, but I’ve eaten there probably five times in the past two weeks. I’m hooked. Good stuff. Check it out.**_-OK, now the videos._*****I know Lindsay Lohan is an absolute mess these days**, but [this video][8] is too good not to post. It’s from an episode of Saturday Night Live she hosted, which was on rerun a couple weeks back. This is one of those legendary skits in which no one can hold in their laughter, making it that much funnier. It hits that point at about the 3:30 mark.***Speaking of SNL**, I busted out the old Best of Will Ferrell DVD last week. Here’s some gems everyone can appreciate…[here][9], [here][10] and [here][11].***Gotta go for one more SNL skit**, and [this one][12] is from a conversation I had a week ago with the 6News sports staff.***Oh wait, nevermind, ooooone more**. [This one][13] is legendary.***Finally, I think I already posted [this one][14] here**, but it’s a video of one of my favorite bands to come around in the past few years – Mute Math. This video is so sweet because of how unique it is. It was filmed from start to finish, but everything was performed backwards while making it, so when it was played backwards from end to start, the performance went from start to finish. I know, confusing, but just check it out. By the way, they’ll be at the Granada October 5, tickets are on sale today. Chances are by the time you’ve read this I’ve already purchased mine.See you soon.**_KUSports.com editor Ryan Greene can be reached at rgreene@ljworld.com, or by phone at (785) 832-6357._** [1]: http://www2.kusports.com/staff/chuck_woodling/stories/ [2]: http://www2.kusports.com/news/2007/jul/31/woodling_pless_worthy_honor/?sports_columns [3]: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Riggins [4]: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_McCormack_%28football_player%29 [5]: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8cexwNdeyQ&mode=related&search= [6]: http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball/celtics/articles/2007/08/05/thought_process/ [7]: http://www.nba.com/playerfile/paul_pierce/ [8]: http://youtube.com/watch?v=mFT6vgKAVHI [9]: http://youtube.com/watch?v=gaPgN_XsBC0 [10]: http://youtube.com/watch?v=p2zRGQX2QLo [11]: http://youtube.com/watch?v=yzvO9aS1hVc&mode=related&search= [12]: http://youtube.com/watch?v=sA4djg6ILxU [13]: http://youtube.com/watch?v=kQd5iY6G2-4 [14]: http://youtube.com/watch?v=b13rc6DY74A
