In a hard-fought match, the Kansas women’s tennis team came up just short in a 4-3 loss No. 10 Baylor Sunday afternoon at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.
The Jayhawks are now 7-10 on the year, having lost four consecutive matches. KU has been defeated by Iowa State, Kansas State, Texas and Baylor over the last two weeks. Baylor improves to 19-3 on the season.
Kansas started off well in doubles play, with Malkia Ngounoue and Julia Deming earning a 6-2 win on court two. The Bears then won the remaining two doubles matches to claim doubles point, taking an early 1-0 advantage.
Carmen Roxana Manu started off singles play with a 6-4, 6-2 victory to even the score back up. Ngounoue then gifted the Jayhawks a 2-1 advantage with a win (6-2, 7-5) on court two. The Bears responded by winning back-to-back matches.
Tiffany Lagarde was responsible for KU’s only other win in singles action, winning her match on court five.
Kansas will host Oklahoma at 5 p.m. Friday.
