The Texas football program’s team activities remained on pause Tuesday, with just a few days left before the Longhorns are scheduled to travel to Lawrence to face Kansas.
UT’s COVID-19 protocols led to the team ceasing its normal game week preparations on Sunday night, after three football players and two staff members tested positive for the virus.
“Out of an abundance of caution,” a published UT statement read, “and as Texas football continues its COVID-19 testing procedures while closely following all of the medical team’s health and safety protocols, all team activities will remain paused on Tuesday.”
The Austin American-Statesman reported it remains unclear whether the Longhorns will resume practicing and preparing like normal on Wednesday, leaving the status of Saturday’s game at KU less certain.
The American-Statesman’s Brian Davis also reported that UT officials expect the finale for the two teams will be played, even if it has to be rescheduled for Dec. 18 or 19.
Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby previously told the American-Statesman each conference game brings in $3.5 million in TV money for the Big 12.
As of Tuesday at least, the KU-UT game remains scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday (ESPNU).
