Kansas coach Todd Chapman announced Thursday that Luniuska “Luna” Delgado has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play tennis for KU, starting in the fall of 2019.

A native of Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela, Delgado has been ranked as high as No. 962 in singles play by the Women’s Tennis Association’s (WTA) and also has achieved a career-high ranking of No. 603 when playing doubles. Her best ITF Juniors ranking has been at No. 364. According to COSAT (South American Tour), Delgado was not only the best U14 and U16 player in her country, but was also No. 1 in both age groups in South America.

“We are very excited to add Luna to our Jayhawk family,” Chapman said in a team release. “We feel fortunate to sign a player of Luna’s caliber at this point in the recruiting process. Luna is a very hard worker, is very dedicated to the process of development and is extremely excited for the opportunity to play collegiate tennis. We feel (that) Luna will make an immediate impact on our team and we can’t wait to get her to campus and start working with her.”
