Furman starting pitching blanks Jayhawks

By Staff Report     Apr 27, 2019

A strong start by Furman pitcher David Dunlavey stifled the Kansas offense in a 3-0 loss on Saturday evening at Latham Stadium.

Dunlavey (3-7) completed all nine innings against Kansas (21-20) and struck out nine batters. On 125 pitches, he only walked one batter.

Kansas redshirt junior starting pitcher Ryan Cyr (2-6) also posted a complete-game effort, only needing 95 pitches to complete eight innings against the Paladins (18-25). Cyr allowed three runs in his quality start, but didn’t receive any run support and was dealt a loss.

The Jayhawks were only able to record two hits off of Dunlavey, coming from junior shortstop Benjamin Sems and sophomore pinch hitter Tom Lichty. Both hits were singles.

The series finale is slated for 11 a.m. Sunday.
