Kansas softball trounces Tech

By Staff Reports     Apr 16, 2016

Kansas University and Texas Tech played 3 1/2 innings of scoreless Big 12 softball Friday night.

Then the bottom fell out on the Red Raiders.

Kansas had two home runs and a double in a 10-run fourth, and the Jayhawks earned a run-rule-shortened 10-0 victory at Arrocha Ballpark.

“Certainly, we didn’t expect that,” KU coach Megan Smith said of the run-rule victory. “We played a really good game tonight and worked hard all week to prepare for Texas Tech. That showed today. We were confident, very calm in our approach and it paid off.”

Andie Formby (15-5) earned the win with five shutout innings. She allowed five hits, with three strikeouts and two walks.

Chaley Brickey went 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI, and Harli Ridling was 2-for-3 with two runs and six RBIs.

Kansas (25-13 overall, 2-2 Big 12) and TTU (19-22, 4-3) will resume their series at 2 p.m. today.
