The Kansas University women’s basketball team on Thursday fell victim to an awful shooting night and dropped a home game, 47-44, to visiting UMKC.
Kansas opened the game just 1-of-19 from the floor and dug a decent-sized hole yet somehow led 17-15 at halftime.
After missing 18 of its first 19 shots, the Jayhawks hit four of their next seven to push past the Kangaroos, who also struggled to make shots from start to finish.
Neither team led by more than five points all night and the only thing that kept Kansas (4-4) in the game was its showing at the free throw line (6-for-9) and from behind the three-point line (6-for-22), where KU struggled but held an advantage over UMKC (2-6).
The ‘Roos, however, made two more field goals in seven fewer attempts and out-shot Kansas 35.3-27.6 percent to survive the sloppy showdown.
Freshman Kylee Kopatich led Kansas with 14 points and sophomore point guard Lauren Aldridge chipped in 10. Jada Brown led KU with 7 rebounds, 3 on the offensive glass.
Next up, Kansas will take on Navy at 1 p.m. Sunday at Allen Fieldhouse.
