KU women breeze by FHSU in exhibition debut

Kansas University’s women’s basketball players never had to sweat about any dramatics or threatening runs from Fort Hays State Sunday afternoon at Allen Fieldhouse.

The Jayhawks led throughout and got exactly what they wanted out of the exhibition — a proper warmup to the 2014-15 regular season and a 73-52 victory.

Senior forward Chelsea Gardner’s size and always-improving skill set proved far to much for the Tigers to deal with, and she scored inside and out on her way to a double-double (23 points, 10 rebounds).

As expected, senior KU guard Natalie Knight complimented Gardner’s interior play on the perimeter. The fourth-year starter hit two of her three three-pointers, scored 11 points and distributed three assists.

The KU bench chipped in 24 points in the victory, and freshman guard Terriell Bradley proved the most productive sub in her debut, with 10 points on 4-for-8 shooting, though she played just 16 minutes.

A starter in her Kansas debut, freshman guard Lauren Aldridge hit her only three-point try and scored seven points, with a steal and an assist.

The Jayhawks play their second and final warmup of the preseason on Nov. 9 at Allen Fieldhouse, against Washburn.
