By Staff Reports     May 19, 2014

? Kansas University collected three event titles, the KU women placed fourth and the men seventh Sunday at the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Jessica Maroszek won her second straight Big 12 discus title with a toss of 60.18 meters (197 feet, 5 inches).

Michael Stigler remained undefeated in the 400-meter hurdles after winning in 49.91 seconds, his third straight league title.

And Casey Bowen won his first league pole vault crown with a leap of 5.49 meters (18-0).

“I thought we had some great performances this weekend,” KU coach Stanley Redwine said. “Any time you have conference champions, it’s a big deal, and we had four athletes who were outstanding. As a team, I thought we did about as good as we could have done today. We had some unfortunate injuries over the weekend and some people who didn’t do as well as expected. We just need to take what we did here and use it at the regional meet in a couple weeks, and hopefully we’ll be better because of it.”

The KU women, in first place heading into Sunday’s final day, fell to fourth in the team standings with 100.5 points. Texas won with 149 and was followed by Baylor (113.5) and Texas Tech (109.5).

Tech won the men’s title with 160.5 points. KU was seventh with 67.

Kansas will compete May 28-31 at the West Region Preliminary meet.
