? Lawrence native Emma Reaney broke her own American record in the 200 breaststroke on her way to winning a national championship Saturday at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

The Notre Dame junior chopped .28 seconds off her time from the ACC Championships and finished with a time of 2:04.06. After placing second in prelims behind Texas A&M’s Breeja Larson, Reaney bounced back in the final heat to win by nearly two seconds.

Reaney used the same race strategy as she did when she previously broke Larson’s record at the ACC Championships by getting out of the blocks fast. She hit the halfway mark in less than a minute again, swimming the first 100 in 59.35 seconds.

Kansas sophomore Chelsie Miller also competed in the meet for the third straight day. Miller finished 17th in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 16:09.97.
