Former LHS, FSHS standouts continue play at NCAA baseball regionals

Former high school baseball standouts from the city of Lawrence continued play in NCAA regionals on Saturday.

Youngstown State freshman shortstop Shane Willoughby, a Lawrence High product, went 1-for-3 with an RBI as the Penguins staved off elimination with a 5-2 victory over Indiana State in Bloomington, Indiana.

Maryland junior outfielder Tim Lewis, a Free State product, went hitless in four at-bats, but his team picked up a 4-3 victory over host South Carolina. The Terrapins are 2-0 at the Columbia regional and will play in the championship today or Monday.

Oregon pitcher Garrett Cleavinger, a sophomore out of LHS, did not enter the Ducks’ first loss at the Nashville regional, 7-2 to Vanderbilt.

Kansas University pitcher Colin Toalson, a junior out of FSHS, did not play in the Jayhawks’ 6-3 loss to regional host Louisville.
