Kansas University junior Deanna Marks was named the Big 12 Winter Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Tuesday.

Marks, a Plano, Texas native, has a 3.93 grade-point average in mechanical engineering and business administration studies and has been named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team the past two seasons.

A swimmer, Marks placed sixth in the Big 12 Championships’ 200-yard butterfly event in a time of 2:02.59.

Student-athletes for the Winter Scholar-Athlete of the Year were selected as the award-winners for their sports based on a vote by that sport’s head coaches.

Marks shares the award with senior Reid Walker from Texas, who is also a mechanical engineering student with a 3.93 GPA.
