KU volleyball falls to No. 1 Texas, 3-1

? Kansas University’s volleyball team kept it close through three sets against defending national champion Texas, but lost, 3-1, on Saturday.

The No. 1-ranked Longhorns (18-2 overall, 11-0 Big 12) began the match with a 25-16 first-set victory before the Jayhawks rallied with a lopsided victory of their own in the second set, 25-15. KU led halfway through the third set, but couldn’t hold off UT, which won, 25-22, and finished off Kansas in a tightly contested fourth set, 25-21. The 24th-ranked Jayhawks fell to 19-6, 9-3 in the Big 12.

Catherine Carmichael led a balanced KU attack with 13 kills, while Caroline Jarmoc, Tayler Soucie and Sara McClinton each added 11. Chelsea Albers had nine kills to go with 13 digs, and Brianne Riley led the Jayhawks with 21 digs. Erin McNorton had 47 assists and three kills.

Kansas hosts Kansas State at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the Sunflower Showdown.
